     MANY THANKS!

The 28th Annual Avon Corn Festival was a grand success. Lots of new visitors and long time members came to browse our tent and chat about Avon's rich history. We thank every one for their interest and support.

We extend a special thank you to Mike Carroll at Studio Sales Pottery and the American Sewing Guild at the Wesleyan Church for their recent raffle donations to the AP&HS. Bonnie McCloud won the lovely piece of pottery and Tom Veeder won the wall hanging honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Avon Public Library.
  Congratulations to all!

About the Avon Preservation and Historical Society

Avon is located in Western New York, situated on the east bank of the Genesee River. Settlers arrived around 1785, and formed the town in 1789 as Hartford. The name was changed to Avon in 1808 to distinguish it from another New York community by the same name.

The Avon Preservation and Historical Society (AP & HS) was chartered in 1983. The mission of the AP & HS is to interpret and preserve the rich history of the village and town of Avon, NY. Educational programs are provided and the Society's diverse resources are available to the public.

The AP & HS Museum, located at 27 Genesee Street, is home to a wide variety of collections. Many unique photographs, historical documents and local memorabilia are on display. Please come visit us on a Thursday or Sunday, between 1:00 and 4:00. The displays change on a regular basis, so come often!

To build an oral history of the area, the AP & HS is recording the recollections of long-time residents. These recordings are available for loan by contacting the AP & HS. If you know someone who would like to share their memories, please contact us for an interview.

Become an AP & HS Member!

As a member you will receive four newsletters each year. Each issue contains unique Avon memories, historic events, and announcements. Your support will also insure our educational programs and expansive museum collections continue on into the future.
